How to Advocate for Inclusive Sex Education in Schools Through Storytelling

About the Workshop

Presenters: Larada Lee-Wallace (She/They) and Halimah Houston (She/Her)
Youth & Adult Led
Level: Beginning
For: Both High School & Middle School Students
Description: This workshop will be co-led by the NorCal regional organizer of GSA Network and a youth leader. Participants can expect to learn new ways in which they can advocate for safer, more equitable school environments through their GSA clubs. They can also expect to learn more about California Healthy Youth Act and their rights as students to receive inclusive sex education.

About the Presenters

Larada Lee-Wallace (She/They)
Gender and Sexualities Alliances Network, NorCal Regional Organizer
Bio: Larada has been engaged in youth organizing since she was 15 years old with some of her first efforts being centered around transformative justice practices and advocating for police free schools in her hometown of Columbus, Ohio. Over the years she has done movement building and youth organizing work with a plethora of organizations both national and local. She currently serves on the Creators Council for Advocates for Youth and does writing for the ChoiceWords blog for Unite Reproductive and Gender Equity (URGE). Larada is also an abortion storyteller for We Testify and is very passionate about centering the voices and experiences of Black, queer, trans and gender non-conforming folx in reproductive justice spaces. In her free time she enjoys drinking lots of tea, listening to Kid Cudi, and tending to her houseplants.

Halimah Houston (She/Her)
Gender and Sexualities Alliances Network, Youth Leader
Bio: Halimah Houston is a youth leader with Gender and Sexualities Alliance Network. She lives in the Bay Area and is a junior in high school. Her interests include art, music, and video games.
