The Purple Sticker Project: Making books and other media with positive LGBTQIA+ representation more accessible to K-12 students

For: Both High School & Middle School Students
Description: Interested in activism and queer books? This workshop will teach participants about the Purple Sticker Project, the goal of which is to make books and other media with positive LGBTQIA+ representation more accessible to K-12 students by applying identifiable purple stickers to media with positive LGBTQIA+ representation in school libraries. The workshop will include a discussion about what positive LGBTQIA+ representation is and an overview of what it’s like volunteering with the Purple Sticker Project.

About the Presenters

Q Licht (He/Him)
Scotts Valley High School Student
Bio: Q Licht is a junior at Scotts Valley High School. He is the SVHS GSA Club Media Chair, a Girl Scout Ambassador and Gold Award recipient, a 2021 Queer Youth Leadership Awardee, and a member of the 2021-22 Queer and Trans Youth Council.

Angela Gates (She/Her)
Soquel High School Librarian
Bio:
Angela Gates is the Soquel High School Librarian and QSA staff advisor. She graduated in 2016 from San Jose State University with a master’s degree in library and information science.
