Queering Faith and Transgressive Religion

About the Workshop

Description: This interactive workshop will look at the impact religion has had on queer and trans people AND the impact queer and trans people have had on religion. The harm caused by religion will be touched on, but the bulk of the time will focus on how queer and trans people are claiming, reclaiming, and proclaiming religion and faith on our terms.

About the Presenters 

delfin bautista (they/them) is a queer and trans latinx diva whose background includes religion, social work, trauma therapy, education, diversity training, and advocacy. delfin serves as Director of the Cantu Queer Center. The Cantu Queer Center is UCSC’s LGBTQ+ center serving students, faculty, staff, and the wider Santa Cruz community through programming, education, and advocacy.

Loki Malak (they/he) and Elliot Elyjah-Mcwhinnie (they/he) are interns with the Cantu Queer Center focused on programming and advocacy. Loki (they/he) is a butch lesbian who is double majoring in feminist studies and literature and a founder of the group Violet Dykes. Elliot (they/he) is a cognitive science major who is involved in Rainbow Theater and passionate about making zines.
