About the Workshop

Presenters:

Divina Trujillo (she/they)

Adult Led

Session: Workshop Session #1 Only

Level: Intermediate

For: High school students

Description:

The intent of this workshop is to educate students on the contributions of LGBTQIA+ icons and how they shape pop culture, music, fashion, societal attitudes, and self expression. What I hope to convey to these students is that queer expression has historically been fringe, and these icons have met resistance and risen above. They will learn that their self expressions are to be celebrated too!

After the presentation the students will make shrinky dink keychains inspired by the content of the presentation.

About the Presenters

My name is Divina Trujillo, I'm 22 years old and am an intern for The Epicenter's Our Gente program. I'm passionate about queer culture and history so being able to host a presentation and activity on that would be a delightful experience. Outside of work, I study sociology so I always carry a critical and sociological lens to the outreach work I do.
