About the Workshop
Presenter
Ellis Olivas (they/them)
Adult Led
Session: 1 & 2
Level: Beginning
For: Both middle and high school students
Description
Have you ever felt like you were being a “Karen” for pointing out how spaces could do better with accessibility? Have you seen folks in charge who seem stuck in the mindset of “the ideal solution isn’t feasible right now, so we can’t do anything”? Let’s talk about it!
We’ll start with a presentation of general principles, then discuss your thoughts and experiences. Open to both disabled and non-disabled students of all advocacy experience levels.
About the Presenter
Ellis is a disabled premedical student at Cabrillo College and an intern at QYTF. After winning a 2015 Queer Youth Leadership Award for their advocacy regarding safe bathroom access for trans students at SVHS, they began volunteering for QYTF and have continued their involvement since then. Motivated by their personal experience with chronic illness, Ellis now aspires to improve our flawed healthcare system from within, with a goal of acknowledging each individual as an expert in their own health experience.
